House Cleaning

Oil Painting
24 x 30 inches
$700

I wanted to paint a skull. I love the way old, clean bones look. But I had to find a context in which to paint it. I didn’t want to do a “Still Life with Skull and Oranges” or something. So I thought, well, what ARE bones, anyway? And the answer was, they are the garbage left behind when we go on. Skulls represent all kinds of things in various cultures: here I meant it to represent mankind’s garbage in general: hared, war, poverty, cruelty, selfishness –– I could go on and on.
