This was painted for an exhibition where the artists were asked to paint their version of the new millennium. It seems to me that mankind yearns for the stars, literally and figuratively. Whats holding us back? Bigotry, aggression, greed, etc. etc. So I painted a gateway to the stars in the evening sky, a window that gives us access to the universe. And that gateway is the face of a woman who represents all races, all peoples of earth combined. Twined in her hair are jewel-faces, each painted from a different ethnic group Inuit, Chinese, Korean, European, African, Arab, East Indian, Native American - as many as I could fit in. We will go to the stars in our bodies or in our hearts when we leave our small, tribal hatreds behind and combine the best in all of us.
