Gloria

Oil Painting
SOLD

I asked Gloria to give me the negatives from her vacation to Peru because she has such a wonderful eye for faces. I wanted to paint some of the Peruvian Indians she captured on film. I promised to give Gloria a painting in exchange. She was expecting a Peruvian lady; instead, I painted her portrait. I found a snapshot of her reading the newspaper and looking up with this wonderful, characteristic grin on her face. I painted her in a shawl against a Tuscan landscape because I thought she was a lot like some powerful, Renaissance lady –– maybe a Borgia but without the poisoning thing – and there’s a storm coming in because her life is also a bit turbulent! Gloria was very surprised but pleased to get this painting instead of a Peruvian Indian painting.
